    The Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants provides members and the public with a variety of opportunities to volunteer your time and skills in support of our organization. Volunteer commitments range from a few hours to ongoing projects. Explore our volunteer opportunities below and discover how you can get involved.

    The 18th New England Regional Genealogical Consortium Conference

    Time Commitment: approximately 2-4 hours hours for 1 day (schedule to be determined)
    Date: October 29 – November 1, 2025
    Location: Manchester, NH
    Skills Needed: MSMD will be participating in this conference alongside other New England Mayflower societies. We are seeking volunteers to help staff our booth for peak periods throughout the day.

    As a volunteer, your responsibilities may include:

    • Greeting conference attendees
    • Providing general information about MSMD
    • Handling sales for MSMD merchandise
    • Assisting individuals in validating their Mayflower lineage

    Training will be provided, including guidance on how to validate lineages and assemble informational packets for interested individuals.

    Bradford Lot Cleanup

    Time Commitment: 4-6 hours for 1 – 2 days
    Date: Spring 2025 - actual date to be determined
    Location: Kingston, MA
    Skills Needed: general yard work including raking, trimming, and area cleanup

    Native New England Plant Expert (Bradford Lot)

    Time Commitment: 2-4 hours 
    Date: Spring 2025 - when convenient for expert
    Location: Kingston, MA
    Skills Needed: Familiarity with native New England plant species; ability to assess which plants are suitable for the site’s current conditions; identify existing vegetation; and provide informed recommendations for new plantings, including strategies to improve growing conditions.

    Mailings

    Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per day for 1-3 days
    Location: MSMD office, 175 Derby St, Ste 13, Hingham, MA
    Skills Needed: folding paper and stuffing envelopes

    Ongoing Volunteering

    Digitizing Records

    Time Commitment: 2-4 hours a day, once a week for duration
    Location: MSMD office, 175 Derby St, Ste 13, Hingham, MA
    Skills Needed: familiarity with scanning, renaming, and organizing digital files on a server

    Graphic Designer

    Time Commitment: varies
    Location: Remote of MSMD office, 175 Derby St, Ste 13, Hingham, MA 
    Skills Needed: design and redesign of products, publications and ad hoc items

    Carpenter

    Time Commitment: varies
    Location: MSMD office, 175 Derby St, Ste 13, Hingham, MA
    Skills Needed: redesign office layout and research library with desks and bookcases
